Eliciting Cooperation from Spirits

We've been going by the idea that ghosts are people, too.  In theory, whatever would have worked with them while they were still alive is likely to work with them now.  Thus, we do what we can to put any potential spirits at ease or pique their curiousity when doing an investigation.

Respectful attitude - from what we've seen, the old saying that you catch more flies with honey  than vinegar holds true in the world of ghost research.  When you consider how many hauntings are from a time period when there was a greater emphasis on manners than there is today, it makes even more sense to go that route.   Introducing ourselves and explaining why we're there, and calling the spirits by the appropriate title ("Mr.", "Mrs.", etc.) are standard practices with us.

Discussions that suit their interest - which would you respond to better: someone interrogating you over the details of your life or someone chatting to you about your favorite hobby?

Use of Music - we try to bring along music that is appropriate to the time period that the alleged ghost is from.  Not only does this intrigue the spirits, it puts them in a friendlier frame of mind for us having brought them a gift.  One of our favorite evps validates this.

White noise - sometimes we play this before starting an investigation.  The theory is that  not only will it draw their attention, it gives tem more energy to draw from.

Period costuming - the idea behind this is that it may confuse the spirits into thinking that we are from their time period and make them feel more comfortable communicating with us.

Experiments with Technology

Frank's Box - or more accurately, a Radio Shack hack version.  This a basically a radio set to scan continuously, which in theory allows spirits to form words from the snippets of voices coming over the airwaves to create real time evps.   Despite initial skepticism, we've been getting some interesting results with this.   Nellie has a website devoted to her experiments with it.

IR photography -  according to some websites we've found, there are ways to modify standard cameras to  do infrared photography.   We're still trying to work the bugs out, but other groups have had stunning results with this.

Negative ion generator  - other groups have had success with this boosting the amount of energy spirits have to interact with the physical world.  Ours hasn't arrived yet,  but we are anxious to start working with it.

Ovilus - this a a box that kicks out computer generated words based on energy levels around the device.  Our first several attemps to use it yielded nothing that couldn't be attributed to audio Rorhschaching or coincidence.  However, in a later investigation, it produced the names of men who were buried in the cemetery we were at.  These names were not part of the device's preprogrammed vocabulary.  We feel this warrants further study.
