1. Members must be
18 years or older to participate in investigations.
While many people under the age of 18 are responsible enough to follow
the other guidelines for membership, we have to have this limit for
legal reasons. Possible exceptions may be made if the juvenile is
accompanied by a parent or guardian who is also a member of R.I.P.
Columbus.
2. Members must behave respectfully towards other members of the
group, everyone they come into contact with while representing R.I.P.
Columbus, and towards the sites that we investigate. Keep
in mind that our members come from many different religious
backgrounds, have different degrees of skepticism and expertise, and
different ways of doing investigations. We should use that as an
opportunity to learn from each other instead of getting into chest
thumping matches. No personal attacks will be tolerated.
3. The running of R.I.P. Columbus is a group effort. While
Nellie is technically the leader of the group, she works 2 jobs and
realistically can't be expected to do all the work. All members
are actively encouraged to take charge and set up investigations for
the group. Suggestions on what we can do to make the
running of the group better are welcome and should be decided on as a
group.
4. Members must let the investigation organizer know in advance
if they want to participate in an investigation. They must also
let the organizer know if they have to cancel after they said they
would go on an investigation.
5. Members may not be under the influence of alcohol or other
mind altering substances while on investigations.
6. Members must respect the property rights of others.
Permission must be obtained from the property owner before
investigating a site. No trespassing or vandalism is allowed.
7. Members are expected to carry legal identification with them
at all times on investigations and cooperate with police if they are
stopped for questioning.
8. Members are expected to behave professionally while on
investigations. Horsing around or trying to scare each other is
not acceptable.
9. Members should report on their findings after participating in
investigations.
10. Active members will be given preference when deciding who
gets to go on investigations where we can only bring a limited
number of people. This will be decided on the basis of how
often a member participaties in investigations and chats and on
the e-mail list. Basically, if you never post on the
group, take part on the chats, or attend the less glamorous
public place investigations, don't expect to be invited to go on the
private ones. Special preference will be given to members
who actually set up investigations themselves.
11. Members and guests must sign a statement saying that
they understand and agree to these guidelines before they will be
allowed to go on investigations.
