RIP Columbus Investigation Report

Date: November 19 – 20, 2005
Year built:    1886
Website: www.mrps.org
Investigators: Wes & Nellie, who worked with independent investigators Becky & Jill from Cleveland

Equipment:
•    EMF Meters
•    Still camera, digital, standard color
•    Audio recorder, digital

Notable history:
It served as a reformatory until the mid-1970’s when it was converted to a maximum security prison.  After it was closed in favor of newer facilities, it was used as a set for various movies, including The Shawshank Redemption.  During its reformatory days, there were factories on site in which inmates learned the trades of shoemaking and woodworking.  One inmate tried an escape attempt by hiding in a box of shoes that was to be shipped out.  Unfortunately for him, that particular box was delivered to the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus.  Early on, the inmates had also been taught the trade of locksmithing until the administration quickly decided that that wasn’t such a good idea.  There are at least a couple of known murders.  The wife of an inmate was killed during a conjugal visit after she confessed to being unfaithful.  A smallish inmate killed another larger inmate whom he had to share an isolation cell with because the other man had been stealing his share of the food.  A warden’s wife also died supposedly when she accidentally set off a handgun while retrieving a hat that was stored in the same closet with it.  The warden and his wife were well known to have a troubled marriage, including hellacious arguments in public, which cast some suspicion on the manner of her death.

General Notes:
The results were disappointing, given the reputation of the place.  We have since been advised that there is much more activity there early in their ghosthunting season when it starts up in March.  The place was very dusty, and with 150 other ghosthunters there, quite noisy.

Significant Phenomena Observed on Investigation:

Time          Observer/Phenomena
7:30 pm    Nellie sensed a fight in the “Jesus” room.  She felt that the one of the inmates died from the resulting injuries, but did not die in that particular room.

8:15 pm     An odd shadow appeared in the lower left corner of a photo Wes took in one of the bedroom's of the warden's private residence.  At first he thought the flash hadn't gone off, but the room is clearly illuminated in the rest of the photo.  the shadow also appears on the same side that the camera flash ism aking it unlikely that the camera flas only parially went off.

8:30 pm    Nellie captured an evp in the central area of the administration offices.  When questioned about whether the entity had been an office worker, something gave a loud sigh.

10:00 pm  Nellie’s camera would not take a picture after she explaining that she was there to prove the existence of ghosts and asked if they would help.  This occurred in the (East wing?) shower room

2:30 am    Becky and Jill witnessed a black shadow about a foot and a half off the ground enter the main tuberculosis ward and cross between them
